Allegation of research misconduct

Jurnal Teknik takes all allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously and handles them following the COPE guidelines and flowcharts and Peraturan Kepala LIPI No. 5 Tahun 2014 on the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.

What counts as misconduct

  • Fabrication: inventing data or results;
  • Falsification: manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, data, or images so the research is not accurately represented;
  • Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and duplicate publication (see the Plagiarism Policy);
  • Authorship misconduct: ghost, gift, or purchased authorship (see Authorship Criteria);
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest and undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI;
  • Citation manipulation: excessive self-citation or coercive citation demanded by editors or reviewers;
  • Peer review manipulation: fake reviewer identities or suggested reviewers with undisclosed relationships;
  • Ethical breaches in research involving human participants, animals, or personal data.

How to report

Anyone (readers, reviewers, editors, or authors) may report suspected misconduct by email to the Editor-in-Chief at martijanti@lecture.unjani.ac.id. Reports should identify the article (title, DOI or submission ID) and describe the concern with supporting evidence. Anonymous reports are accepted if they contain sufficient, verifiable evidence. The identity of the person reporting will be kept confidential.

Procedure

  1. Acknowledgment: the Editor-in-Chief acknowledges the report within 7 working days.
  2. Initial assessment: the Editor-in-Chief and at least one editor without a conflict of interest assess whether the allegation has substance.
  3. Author response: the corresponding author is informed of the concern and given 14–30 days to respond with an explanation and, where relevant, raw data.
  4. Investigation: if the response is unsatisfactory, the journal may consult independent experts and contact the authors' institution, which may be asked to conduct its own investigation.
  5. Decision: the editorial board decides on an outcome and informs all parties. Authors are presumed innocent until misconduct is established.

Possible outcomes

  • Concern dismissed, with no further action;
  • Education or warning letter to the authors;
  • Rejection of a manuscript under review;
  • Publication of a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction (see Correction and Retraction policy);
  • A ban on submissions from the authors for a defined period;
  • Notification of the authors' institution or funder.

The journal keeps a confidential record of each case and its outcome.
